Car information
1937 Sports Coupe, 15 Series 120. The previous owner was my father, Harry (1946-1968). I was first introduced to Packards as a child. Harry, after leaving the Armed Services in 1946, purchased the 37. It had a 1942 Cadillac motor installed in it. It was one of two coupes imported into Australia. This car was our family car for many years but also a workhorse. My father modified the back to make it into a business man’s coupe so he could cart farm produce. Dad stored the original parts which I was able to use when I restored it. My father laid it up in a shed in about 1962. When I was 16 in 1968, I started tinkering with the Packard and, in 1972, got it on the road. I drove the Packard to Sydney to meet Gwen MacRae from the Packard club. She didn’t seem to be too impressed with the car or me because of the Cadillac motor in it, however, she did allow me to join the club. In 1985 I removed the Cadillac motor and installed the original 120 motor. The car has been fully restored mechanically – even the radio, thanks to my brother. It goes on many outings and has proven to be a very reliable car. The car is in need of a paint job, but this will be done when I have restored my roadster (which is being restored).
