Car information

This 533 was early production built in 1927 and came into Adelaide, Australia as a coal tar black Hire car. It had a second career as a school bus in the Mount Pleasant (Adelaide Hills) area from the early 1930’s to the mid 1950’s. The car was stored from1963 until I purchased the vehicle in 1975. Dale Collins had gone over to Adelaide in 1975 to inspect the body as he was doing up a 633 and mentioned to me that the car was too good to pull apart and that I should get it. Shortly afterwards and $2,500 later, I drove the car to Melbourne and even at 45 mph, the storage tyres were shedding rubber chunks by Tailem Bend. I fitted second hand 7.00 X 20 semi-trailer cases and made it to Melbourne ok. In 1984, I repainted the exterior myself in a Showroom Brochure colour from a 633 (because I didn’t know any better). The interior is mostly original, although some renovation was carried out in 1955. I have fitted a 4.38 axle ratio and the sedan cruises well at 55 mph with a trailer of old bikes attached. A very reliable old Packard . The 1941 Indian motor bike is registered, ready to go and our emergency transport … just in case! It appears to enjoy the superior ride of a Packard.
