Car information
1928 Packard 443 Custom Eight Phaeton
The 4-43 is factory right-hand-drive and was exported new to Uruguay. It was found abandoned on a farm, “buried up to its axles” by Leopoldo Sternin. The car’s earlier history is not known. According to Henry Yeska Senior from Nazareth Pennsylvania, the car returned to the United States in the early 1980s where it was purchased by an Orlando (Florida) real-estate dealer. I have not been able to find out the developer’s name. When the dealer died, Henry Yeska purchased the 4-43 from the estate. I purchased the car from him in 1993. The 4-43 when purchased was largely complete in 1993 but needed a total restoration. The 4-43 is very early in the series (engine number 225373 ) so has the single coil ignition as also used on the third series eights. The speedometer in the car is North East as for other fourth series eights but it is calibrated in kilometers per hour.
