Car information
Dave has always loved cars. He has dragged raced, speedway raced, Nascar raced, hot rodded and collected Classic cars. Caroline had no choice, so she embraced it and is enjoying the ride. We have a small collection of favourites (all of them American), including 2 x 7 seat Packards – 1927 and 1928. Known as Old Gold & Amelia. The cars were purchased together and had previously been Wedding cars.
AMELIA – 1928 Packard 7 Seat Sedan, Model 533, 6 Cylinder
Amelia is named after the famous American aviator Amelia Earhart, who in 1928 became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean ( as a passenger). In 1932 she was the first woman to fly solo across the pacific. A woman with a brave spirit. Amelia was purchased with Old Gold. She has been fully restored ……and is a well travelled girl. Also brave spirited like her name sake. Amelia was previously owned by Jim Ellis ( of South Australian Packard Fame ) who fully restored her from a shell of a car. She was beautifully restored and was a joint winner in the 1988 Bay to Birdwood Concourse. Following her win Jim had a few modifications made and took her around Australia towing a caravan (suitably painted and striped to match). She has a towbar, a 2nd fuel tank enabling 180 litres of fuel, an alternator to replace the generator and even has an air conditioner. She was fitted with a mobile phone and all these modifications discretely concealed. We have since put in an electric water pump. Restored over 30 years ago she is still beautiful and can hold her own.
