Car information
“OLD GOLD” – 1927 433 7-Seat 6 cylinder. We believe Old Gold was owned by McPherson Robertson of MacRobertson Chocolates (think Cherry Ripe and Freddo frog fame). Mac owned the largest fleet of Packard cars in Melbourne. We would love to be able to confirm the identity of the car. Unfortunately a log book with the car went missing years ago. We would love to see where the car was driven and maybe who rode in her. I bet she has some stories!
In 1927 Mac Robertson funded the purchase of a De Havilland Giant Plane for Horrie Miller Airlines in Adelaide, on the condition the plane be called “Old Gold’ after his chocolate. The airline became MacRobertson Miller Airlines , and was subsequently sold to Ansett. Old Gold regularly flew the Mt Gambier route. Mac Robertson went on to sponsor the 1934 Air Race from London the Australia.
Old Gold is a beautiful Car. She was fully restored by the previous owner to Concourse about 15 years ago and has been used minimally. A Bay to Birdwood Concourse finalist twice. She has been used for family weddings and sometimes taken out for a coffee & breakfast on a weekend morning. She was taken to Kadina in 2018.
